Description: New Year's Eve is celebrated with fireworks. Traditionally, a midnight feast is served, mostly with food or fruits that are circular in shape to symbolize money. Some people put money in their pockets so that, as the belief goes, they will have money all year.

Feast of the Black Nazarene
Date: January 9
Venue: Quiapo Church, Manila
Description: Considered miraculous, the wooden black statue of Jesus Christ is carried by male devotees.

Biniray Festival
Date: January 9
Venue: Romblon Province
Description: Celebration includes a festival parade in the sea.

Lingayen Gulf Landing
Date: January 9
Venue: Lingayen, Pangasinan Province
Description: Commemorates the 1945 landing of General MacArthur's Allied Forces in Luzon.

Sinulog Festival
Date: 3rd week of January
Venue: Cebu City, Cebu, Digos, Davao del Sur and Kabankalan, Negros
Description: Celebrates the Sto. Niño, or the Christ Child, with processions and a dance step.

Ati-Atihan Festival
Date: 3rd week of January
Venue: Kalibo and other parts of the country
Description: Celebrates the Sto. Niño, the Child Jesus and commemorates a pact between Indonesian immigrants and native tribes. Highlights include colorful costumes and blackened faces of revelers.

Dinagyang Festival
Date: 4th weekend of January
Venue: Iloilo City
Description: Celebrates the Sto. Niño, the Child Jesus

Daro Sinulog
Date: 3rd week of January
Venue: Dumaguete, Negros
Description: Celebrates the Sto. Niño's conversion of pagan tribes.

Caracol sa Makati
Date: Last Sunday of January
Venue: Makati City, Manila
Description: Caracol is a Spanish term for 'snail'. As an expression to preserve our natural heritage, groups dress up as endangered flora and fauna.

Vigan Town Fiesta
Date: 4th week of January
Venue: Vigan City
Description: A week-long celebration honoring St. Paul the Apostle.

Apribada
Date: 4th week of January
Venue: Donsol Sorsogon
Description: Celebrates the arrival of the 'butanding' or whale shark, and the blessings it will bring to the town.
